Visit our museum
THE New Year at Redland Museum starts with an exhibition called Wildflowers of Wallaby Creek, by local botanical artist Jan Acton.
It is based on a year of discovery in the Australian bush at Wallaby Creek in the Mount Cotton area and comprises 70 exquisite artworks and extracts from Jan's diary. This exhibition will continue until the end of February.
Building of the extension to the museum is making very good progress and should be completed early in the New Year. This will give the museums much more display area to show their very large collection to visitors.
The Hobbies series continues to prove popular with visitors. Seventh in the series is the exhibition of a large collection of 54 Enid Blyton books from last century, belonging to museum volunteer, Sandra Davis. This has been extended, by popular request, till January 18. This display celebrates the 70th anniversary of Blyton's Famous Five series of 21 books, the first one, "Five On A Treasure Island" being published in 1942. Other series featured in the exhibition are "Noddy", "The Enchanted Wood", "Malory Towers", "The Secret Seven". This exhibition is of interest to Enid Blyton enthusiasts. Most of the books are original editions.
Would you like to become a volunteer at the museum? The work there is challenging and interesting, the camaraderie great. Please call in to see the team, or phone 3286 3494.
