REDLAND will be well represented when the Redlands RSL Southern Cross Challenge softball competitions gets under way at Ormiston later this month.
Victoria Point softballer Tara Speakman will compete as part of the Queensland Heat women's team at the Challenge to be held at the Redlands Softball grounds on April 25-28.
The Southern Cross Challenge is a premier international men's and women's softball competition hosted by Softball Queensland and the New Zealand Canterbury Softball Association in alternate years.
It provides a consistent international softball opportunity for athletes from Australia and New Zealand and is open to teams currently competing at national, state, provincial or pro-league levels.
Queensland Heat will be looking to clinch a win at this year's competition after finishing a close second to the New Zealand White Sox Selection team at the 2012 Southern Cross Challenge.
Guy Covacin (Ormiston), Julian Jemmott (Wellington Point), Marshall Kronk (Birkdale), Luke VandeGriendt (Wellington Point) and Aaron Whitefield (Alexandra Hills) will compete as part of the Queensland Patriots men's softball team at the Challenge.
The Challenge is open to both male and female teams, currently competing at national, state, provincial or pro-league levels.
Queensland Patriots will be looking to climb up the ladder for a first or second placing at this year's competition after finishing third to the Canterbury Red Sox and New Zealand Junior Black Sox at the 2012 Southern Cross Challenge.
Fellow softballer news, Rebecca McEachern, of Birkdale, has been named as part of the Queensland School Sport 2013, 19 years and under girls softball team.
Rebecca was selected after a standout performance at the Queensland Secondary Schoolgirls State Championship held in Rockhampton on March 20-24.
She will represent Queensland at the 2013 School Sport Australia 17 Years and Under Softball Championships in Perth on May 5-11.
