LITTLE David Teh has a green thumb most avid gardeners would envy.
This Sunday, the seven-year-old Redlands College student plans to put his thumb to the test by planting as many trees as he can for National Tree Day.
David's mother Kathleen said her son couldn't get enough of gardening and had already taken part innumerous tree planting activities in the Redlands to help repopulate koalas.
"He loves koalas. He has actively championed their cause since he was three years old, planting trees, raising awareness, fundraising and participating in the Koala Fun Run," she said.
"David hopes that everyone can help out so that our wildlife (in the Redlands) will still be around when he and his friends grow up."
Kathleen said David would be participating in National Tree Day plantings at Doug Tiller Reserve in Montgomery Drive, Wellington Point from 9am to 11am and was urging others to join in.
"He's planted trees in Ormiston with Landcare, in Birkdale with the Koala Action Group and in Cleveland with Bushcare," she said.
"For his sixth birthday, instead of presents, David asked all of his friends to donate to the bats and koalas. He's very passionate."
David said he has always loved koalas.
"I have a koala and wallabies living down the end of my street. Not everyone can say that," he said.
"The koalas need the trees for food and homes. The more trees we have, then the more oxygen we have to breathe."
National Tree Day is Australia's biggest community tree-planting event coordinated nationally by Planet Ark.
The Redlands event is hosted by the Redland City Council's Community Bushcare Program.
Over 4000 plants, including 200 koala food trees, will be planted along Hilliard's Creek wildlife corridor.
