POLICE on North Stradbroke Island will continue to keep an eye on holidaying students until the end of the week, when school holidays end.
By Friday, it is estimated more than 500 students will have visited Straddie for the pre-Schoolies holiday.
Officers from Bayside Patrol Area Tactical Crime Squad will remain on the island until the weekend to help local police.
Dunwich sergeant Peter Twort said that last week, police issued 66 fines for $247 to underage students for having alcohol in public places.
Sgt Twort said most students were well behaved but police were ready to step up their presence if necessary.
He also paid tribute to volunteers from the Red Frogs non-government organisation, which hands out lollies and ensures students are safe and sober.
Cleveland MP Mark Robinson visited the island on Wednesday to meet students and announce $30,000 in funding to Red Frogs.
He met the group's 10 volunteers at Point Lookout, who provided a sober presence at parties, cooked students free pancakes and walked the streets looking for young people needing help.
"As a strong supporter of the Red Frogs Chaplaincy program on North Stradbroke Island, I have secured funding of $10,000 a year over the next three years so this fantastic work can continue on the island," Mr Robinson said.
Schoolies Week starts on November 16.
