Last night Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) and Rural Fire Service Queensland (RFSQ) crews continued their efforts to fight a large bushfire in the vicinity of Brown Lake.
A QFES spokesperson said fire crews were successful in protecting properties in the Myora Springs and Gatumba Street area yesterday and worked throughout the night to strengthen containment lines in and around these areas.
“Water bombing operations will commenced at 7am today and this will be concentrated on fires, which are unreachable by fire crews,” the spokesperson said.
There is currently no threat to property, however the fire is producing a large smoke haze.
Residents are advised to keep their doors and windows closed, and if they suffer from respiratory conditions, to keep medication close by.
Motorists in the area are advised to drive with caution and check with Redland City Council and Queensland Police Service (QPS) as there is restricted access to some roads and camp grounds on the island.
