THE CAGE Youth Foundation has relocated its Capalaba base to a more spacious property at Redland Bay and the organisation's directors, Peter and Linda Grieve, are planning big for the future.
Linda said the new, 1.8ha (4.5 acre) property, with a house, a six-car garage, and an old mechanic's shed that has been turned into a multi-purpose hall, was needed for the Cage's growth.
She said this would include short-term crisis care, along with further development of its current and planned services, including a youth space, playgroup, free counselling service, seminars, workshops, mobile services to engage with youth out in the community, and more.
"The move is good for our future," Linda said.
"As we progress, I see rope obstacle courses, grassed areas where kids can play friendly ball games, maybe a half-pipe for a skate park, workshops, dance parties and more, all in a safe environment.
"We'd also like to open a cafe to the public."
Linda said the existing house would be used for meeting areas, training rooms and offices, with the next immediate project being the creation of a youth space in the garage.
She said the newly renovated multi-purpose hall, with stage, lighting, seating and sound equipment, had been "made possible by the generous support of the community" and was available for the public to hire for a range of events, including workshops, seminars and training.
"We're also entering into a (work experience) partnership with Max Employment Victoria Point and Cleveland-Capalaba to help their clients develop skills that will help them find employment," she said.
