Historic Ormiston House was a sea of chrome and colour on Sunday, June 29 as the Vintage Car Club of Queensland held its Annual Concours d’Elegance.
Cars of all eras were represented with the oldest a 1909 Renault AX sporting a 2 cylinders and developing 8 horsepower. The other end of the spectrum was represented by a comparative newcomer, a 1958 Jaguar Mark 9.
The proud owners were eager to show explain the details of their vehicles with Syd Norman explaining the inner workings of his 1910 Maxwell Model AA. Syd had recently been in Robe, South Australia with his car driving around 140 kilometres each day while there.
Two of the most popular vehicles on display were the 1929 Stutz Blackhawk with its stunning orange wheel colours and the bright red 1937 Lagonda M4SR. The Lagonda won the People’s Choice award on the day.
I wonder if in 100 years, the cars of today will evoke such emotions in people as the cars on display last Sunday do in people today.
