BARGE services to the bay islands will run to a Sunday timetable on Tuesday so maintenance works can be carried out at the Redland Bay vehicle ramp and loading bay.
Stradbroke Ferries Scott George said works would include upgrading and maintaining a concrete block and replacing a steel bar at the ramp, next to the Weinam Creek ferry terminal.
Mr Scott said it was expected the barge service would resume its normal Wednesday timetable on Wednesday.
It is the second time in a week the barge service will be halted after a wire cable holding up the barge’s landing bridge snapped on Monday.
That prompted bay island residents to ramp up calls for a bridge to Russell Island and start a Facebook page called Russell Island Queensland Bridge Supporters.
Redlands MP Peter Dowling said the level of support for a bridge was growing and he hoped to convene a meeting with residents to discuss the proposal.
Residents asked for deputy premier Jeff Seeney to be invited along with Mayor Karen Williams and councillor Mark Edwards.
However, Mr Dowling said there was no “need” for Mr Seeney to be invited.
