CAPALABA snooker player Kurt Brown, 21, has chalked up some impressive wins this year and accepted an offer from the Australian Billiard and Snooker Council to attend an elite coaching school in Thailand to further his expertise in the sport.
His achievements include wins in the Matchroom Open at Sunnybank in February, the Queensland Handicap Championships and the Queensland Under 21 Snooker Championships, both in March, before heading off to the Oceania Under 21 titles in Albury, where he was runner-up, and then to Melbourne for the Under 21 National Snooker Titles.
Kurt also represented Australia in the World Under 21 Championships in Al-Fujairah, United Arab Emirates, where he placed in the top 16 players.
Following the World Championships, he was invited to play in the Heretaunga Classic Invitational in New Zealand, and won the final match 4 2.
Kurt, who began his coaching in snooker at Redlands RSL Snooker Coaching Clinic as a nine-year-old, said playing at world level for the fifth consecutive year was "a good experience".
"I'm put up against the best players in the world and every time I go there, I come back with more skills," he said.
Ranked at 10 in Queensland, Kurt said he aimed to also be ranked in the top 10 players in Australia and "see where I go from there".
