THOUSANDS of dollars were stolen from poker machines at a Victoria Point bowls club when thieves broke in through the roof.
A police spokesman said the culprits escaped with more than $4000 after cutting a hole in the roof of the Victoria Point Bowls and Recreation Club on Sunday night.
The hole was directly above the pokies room and meant the thieves could avoid security gates inside the building.
Two crowbars found at the scene are believed to have been used to smash open several poker machines, giving the offenders access to cash and coins inside.
The offenders then fled back through the roof.
Police estimate about $36,000 worth of damage was wrought during the break-in.
