REDLANDS College students are ready to kick off their first season playing rugby union after a visit from Queensland Reds star Quade Cooper on Monday.
Cooper, known for his on-field maverick antics, visited to assist the school setting up a union team.
He also gave out some free tips on playing the game and how to stay healthy.
Rugby union has interested students at the college, but to date no team has been set up.
A group of keen students, led by Lachlan Roberts, started their own training sessions and teacher Malcolm Oosterbeek took on the role of coach.
School groundskeeper Dave Jones, who is related to Cooper, asked the star fly-half to help out as the team prepared for a “Best of Three” rugby union competition at the college in August.
College executive assistant business manager Beth Kitson said the super Cooper training session was a great opportunity for players to prepare.
They had two training sessions, which will be followed by three in-school games before the big match.
“We are still not sure where this will lead to in terms of implementing rugby union at the school, but it is a good platform to launch from,” she said.
