MEMBERSHIP of Redland Organic Growers Inc, called ROGI, has grown so quickly over the past year it has outgrown its meeting venue at IndigiScapes and moved to the Salvation Army Church, corner McDonald Rd and MacArthur Street, Alexandra Hills.
ROGI President Jill Nixon said there had been a strong community interest in growing organic produce.
The next meeting, on August 13, features Redlands' own garden guru Gennaro De Rosa, who will give tips and tricks on growing organic produce.
Gennaro lives in Birkdale and is one of ROGI's most knowledgeable members and a successful gardener.
Members will also vote in the committee for the coming year at a short AGM.
Members should bring finger food to share.
Visitors are welcome with a $5 entry. Membership is $30 a year and includes monthly meetings with guest speakers, garden visits, field trips, plant clinic, seed and product advice, library books - and a helping hand from experienced members.
Recently ROGI held a Garden Makeover competition won by Thornlands' resident and member, Sharr Ellson.
ROGI member and organic garden specialist Linda Brennan of Ecobotanica, guided the make-over of part of Sharr's suburban backyard into a future orchard.
Other ROGI members came along to the workshop to help out as well as learn about raising seeds and taking cuttings.
The next meeting will be Wednesday, August 13, at 6.15pm for a 7pm start.
