ELEVEN- year old Redland Rays Baseball infielder, Lucinda Cavanagh from Birkdale, is in Japan for the World Children’s Baseball Fair, which runs until August 7.
The fair was established in 1989 by Sadaharu Oh and Hank Aaron and Dr Akiko Agishi, and each year five children from 15 countries are invited to attend. Participants receive coaching from major league coaches from around the world, as well as enjoy a number of cultural events.
The fair's mission is “to share the dream of friendship and teamwork with children from around the world and to sow the seeds of that dream through an international baseball fair”.
Lucinda's mother Leese said her daughter was thrilled when Baseball Australia selected her as the only Queenslander, and one of only two girls.
"Lucinda loves baseball. While other children might have posters of rock stars on their walls, Lucinda’s is covered in baseball quotes and memorabilia," Leesa said.
Lucinda started playing t-ball when she was five, and moved over to baseball four years ago. She was the second baseman for her otherwise ‘all boys’ team, the Redland Devilrays, when they won the Brisbane South Little League Majors Championships earlier this year.
