I'M a 60-year-old female who does not do illicit drugs in any way, but yes, please legalise medical marijuana.
I think that some people are under the misapprehension that medical marijuana still gives a "high".
Strains used, such as Charlotte's Web which is a cross between marijuana and industrial hemp, are very low in THC, which gives the high, and high in canna-bidiol (cbd), which is the compound that helps these conditions.
I saw the story on 60 Minutes about seven-year-old Charlotte Figi. You cannot help but be moved and extremely impressed with the results. I have seen similar stories (and results) on local television about a man in Nimbin.
Some people argue, "Oh, but what about the long-term effects?"
These people do not have a present, let alone a long-term health condition. It is a ridiculous argument and one they would not be making if it were their child.
My personal concern is that it could possibly be a conflict of interest with our drug companies, which may wish to block legalisation. Why would they want something that can be produced relatively simply and cheaply and may, in some cases, replace drugs they produce?- Michele Godfrey, Birkdale
