A VICTORIA Point resident stopped a potential burglary when they caught a would-be intruder trying to break in.
The Wilson Lane resident woke up in the early hours of Monday morning after they thought they heard a possum.
Instead, they saw a man scale their rear patio before attempting to open a sliding glass door.
The man fled without entering after he realised he'd been spotted.
The incident happened at about the same time as a "sneak break” at a nearby house.
An iPod, iPad and other items were stolen from the bedroom of the White Street house while the victim slept.
A rolled up newspaper had been used to keep a door open.
South Brisbane Crime Prevention Coordinator, Senior Sergeant Janelle Andrews asked residents to take precautions such as locking doors and windows and, if possible, installing CCTV or security alarms.
She asked anyone with information about Monday’s incidents to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
