Redland City Council will receive $5.2million from the federal government for local projects and services of its choice.
The money is part of a $2.3 billion Financial Assistance Grants program.
Councils are free to spend the no-strings attached grant funding according to local priorities, including for infrastructure, health, recreation, environment, employment and roads.
Bowman MP Andrew Laming said the money was in addition to federal money for the Roads to Recovery, Black Spot and Bridges Renewal programs.
He said a further $9.3billion would be delivered to local governments across the country before 2019.
Redland mayor Karen Williams said the Financial Assistance Grants were a major revenue source for the city and were welcome in this time of rising costs and falling revenue.
She said it was likely some of the money would be spent on road projects.
