The Bulldogs will be looking for convincing wins when they travel to O'Callaghan Park on Saturday to take on relegation side North Star.
Reeling from an 8-2 hammering by Albany Creek, the Stars are not expected to put up much opposition.
Their reserves lost 5-0.
While the Capalaba firsts are concerned only with edging Logan Lightning out of fifth spot, the reserves need the win to have a chance of making the top four.
With a game in hand, they are only two points behind fourth-placed UQ, with Wolves the main threat.
Under the new Championship points system, UQ has been boosting its reserves with players from the top side, hoping to win these fixtures as their firsts are firmly rooted at the bottom of the Premier League table.
Both Wolves and UQ reserves face tougher games, so a win to Capalaba on Saturday should put them in with an excellent chance of making the finals.
The recent rains wreaked havoc on fixtures, leaving Capalaba with two catch-up games, this week's against North Star and another yet to be scheduled against Ipswich Knights.
The Knights' match will be a tougher prospect.
Just below the Bulldogs on the table, they are not a side to roll over meekly and can be guaranteed to put up stiff opposition at John Frederick's Park.
Newcomer Marco Adaggio has settled in well, and he and his Shrewsbury teammate Steve Leslie are working beautifully together.
With Paul O'Brien and Sam Roper dominating the midfield, the combination makes a powerful striking force, with Josh Sherwood also among the leading scorers.
The back line is solid, with John Thompson, Mar Thompson and Josh Harding capable of stopping just about any attack, and keeper Brad Burrows is well in control.
Jake Kallis will be missing, having left this weekend for trials in England.
North Star is particularly vulnerable at the back, having conceded 69 goals, by far the worst in the competition.
Their reserves leak even more, conceding 86 goals in 21 matches.
Saturday's away games kick off at 4.45pm and 7pm.
