THE family of Redland Bay woman Rhonda Lofting is devastated and in shock after the 65-year-old died when her car was crushed in an accident on Finucane Road at Alexandra Hills on Thursday.
Mrs Lofting, who worked part-time as a receptionist for a Victoria Point doctor, was on her way to join friends for a weekly craft gathering when she was killed just after 1.30pm.
Paramedics gave her CPR at the scene but she was unable to be resuscitated.
Her daughter, Stephanie Lofting, was still in shock after having flown back to the Redlands from her home in London on Friday night to be alongside her three brothers.
Mrs Lofting's ex-husband, Erik Lofting, flew back to Redlands from his home in Bali on Friday.
Family and friends said Mrs Lofting was a doting grandmother, mother and sister who was always willing to step in to care for her five grandchildren.
She would regularly drive them to and from school at Faith kindy at Victoria Point on Thursdays and sometimes the kids would go with her to craft meetings.
She was a long-time resident and active community member of the Redlands after moving to the area 45 years ago from Innisfail in Far North Queensland.
Her son, Jordan, who lives at Victoria Point and works for Energex, was attending a job in Alexandra Hills when his mother was killed.
He said his mother would be remembered for being a kind and compassionate woman who always put the happiness and well-being of her family ahead of her own.
"We live in a cruel universe," Jordan said.
"The randomness of the split-second that the collision occurred is maddening. Words are utterly inadequate."
