Redland City Council has ruled out claims two dogs got sick from eating baits at Cleveland’s GJ Walter Park last week.
The dogs, a labradoodle and a jack russell, both from Cleveland, were taken to the Manly Road Veterinary Hospital, where they were treated and kept in overnight.
Clinic operations manager Jodie Greer said it was suspected the two dogs ate rotten or mouldy food or the remains of a dead animal but were not victims of being baited or poisoned.
The vet told council officers there were no suspicious products found in, or on, the dogs and the symptoms displayed were consistent with a toxin that naturally occurs in rotting food.
Council officers also scoured GJ Walter Park for any material that may have caused the dogs’ illness.
“No material was located and council is looking at other possible causes of the incident.”
