A crashed car left abandoned in a park at Ormiston was expected to be removed by Redland City Council late on Friday.
A Redland City Council spokesperson said council has been in contact with the police about the vehicle and was formally advised on Thursday afternoon that police no longer had an interest in the vehicle.
Police told council that any further action rested with the vehicle’s owner and or council. The council spokesperson said council had made efforts to contact the vehicle’s owner by phone to have the car moved without success.
On Friday council arranged to have the vehicle moved and impounded. The vehicle was expected to be removed from the site late on Friday.
The Falcon one-tonne ute was involved in a collision with another vehicle in Sturgeon Street late on Saturday afternoon and sustained serious front end damage. At least one person was taken to hospital.
It is believed the owner of the ute elected to leave the crashed car in the carpark of the Fellmonger Park at Ormiston.
Redland City Council erected safety barriers around the car, which is blocking the entrance to the carpark and partly obstructs the walking path.
Divisional 1 councillor Wendy Boglary said she had asked council staff to erect barriers after she saw the abandoned car in the park on Saturday night.
