RESIDENTS in multi-storey apartment buildings have been warned to take precautions against "Spiderman"-style thieves after a burglary in Cleveland last week.
A police spokeswoman said a third-floor unit on Shore Street West was broken into through an unlocked balcony door between 10pm on Tuesday and 5.30am on Wednesday.
It's believed the culprit scaled the outside of the building to reach the balcony, before he entered the unit and stole two credit cards.
The credit cards have since been used to make fraudulent purchases at local businesses.
So-called "Spiderman" thieves, who scale high-rise buildings to exploit perceived lax security on upper storeys, have been active on the Gold Coast and parts of Brisbane in recent years.
Police have urged residents in apartments to lock their balcony doors and windows.
