After chewing up the pride of Lions, the Bulldogs reserves are setting off on a Tiger hunt.
Gerard Crilly was the hero of the penalty shoot-out which secured Capalaba a place in the Grand Final against Eastern Suburbs on Friday night.
Crilly did well to get a touch to the first shot and for a moment it looked as though he made a save, but the ball spun viciously back from his hand and ended up in the net.
Lions scored with the next but Crilly rose to the occasion and saved the third.
When the next Lions striker was way off target, Capalaba secured the win.
The reserves' biggest problem on Friday will be complacency, as they beat the Tigers 2-1 in the first round, 2-0 in the second.
With his players suffering a number of niggling injuries, coach Kevin Byrne will not know until training tonight who will be available for the big match.
The Bulldogs' famous fighting spirit was never in more evidence than at Richlands on Sunday.
Down 2-0 after conceding a penalty just after the break, it took until the last 15 minutes of the second half before Montezuma's Restaurant Man of the Match Ben Newberry scored their first goal after being set up following beautiful play from Tristan Leek and James Millar.
Then, well into injury time, Luis Ruiz scored the equaliser.
They had come breathtakingly close a few moments earlier, when Sam Owen forced a corner and Alex Warrilow placed the ball accurately into the six-yard box.
Only desperate defence by the Lions and a couple of great saves by their keeper Declan Murphy kept the ball out of the net.
The game was marred as a spectacle by the extreme caution showed by both sides.
Evenly balanced, they concentrated on retaining possession, resulting in attractive play but little excitement.
Lions had the first real shot, followed up by a Capalaba move which brought the first genuine save of the match.
Josh Peacock did well to break up one raid, then Griff Mansfield-Taylor switched play cleverly, giving Nic Broomham an opportunity to show his skills on the wing.
Capalaba produced a number of good moves involving a combination of players.
Broomham, Ruis, and Mansfield-Taylor figured in one, Ruiz, Mansfield-Taylor and Danny Catanzaro working together in an even more promising raid.
Sam Watt opened the scoring for Lions after a solid build-up.
Peacock began another attack which ended with Ruiz narrowly missing the post with the keeper beaten.
At the other end, Millar, Catanzaro, and Blair Warden made their share of great tackles when the Lions looked well away.
After the break former Capalaba player Trent Vohland put Lions further ahead with a well-taken penalty kick.
Millar was involved in a number of chances, setting Catanzaro and Warrilow on one attack, then having a shot which went to the keeper.
Around the half-way mark Byrne subbed on Brendan Cobb and Keegan Douglas, and their fresh legs added extra impetus to the Capalaba attck, both making a top contribution.
Peacock's pace gave him the edge when Lions put a ball through and it was only his speed which got him to the ball ahead of the attacker.
Warden, too, made a terrific defensive tackle to stop a promising Lions' raid.
Owen came close to creating a goal with an accurate cross into the box, but it came to nothing.
Then Leek and Millar produced an outstanding performance to set up Newberry, whose goal lifted Capalaba's hopes.
On a high now, the Bulldogs launched great attacks, one in particular thwarted only by desperate defence.
Then, in extra time, Diaz put away the equaliser.
That forced the game into an added 30 minutes, with the tempo way up despite the tiring legs.
Lions arguably had the best of this time, one shot coming off the crossbar, another couple of attacks wasted.
In a nail-biting finish Capalaba had as many as five chances in their last raid before the whistle.
Crilly's save in the penalty shoot-out was crucial, as Warrilow, Peacock, Millar, and Newberry all beat the Lion's keeper.
Friday's Grand Final at Heath Park kicks off at 7.30pm.
