The curtain will come down after more than 100 years of harness racing at the Bathurst Showgrounds with a gala day and final meeting on Sunday.
The 800-metre circuit will be replaced by a 1000-metre track at Mount Panorama from next month as harness racing moves away from its showground roots.
"I think a few people will be a bit sad to leave but the new track will take racing here to state-of-the-art standards and we hope we can get young people back to the track," Bathurst secretary Danny Dwyer said.
"We wanted this day to be a celebration of the track, the great horses and people that have raced here. We have invited more than 100 drivers that have driven at the showgrounds to come along and a lot of them have accepted.
"In the 80s we used to have name plates for each driver and that's how we got a lot of the names and we are going to present them to each driver."
Bathurst and harness racing always seem to have a third name associated with them, that being Turnbull.
The Turnbull family have dominated the sport in the area and have won many trainers and drivers premierships, starting with the great AD Turnbull through to Steve Turnbull, who won the NSW title last season, and his daughter, champion driver Amanda, who will return for the final meeting.
Part of the celebration will be a phantom race of the "greatest ever" horses to race at Bathurst, which includes crowd favourites Hondo Grattan, Smooth Satin and Karloo Mick. They were all trained in the area.
"We tried to get everyone involved and I'm sure the phantom call of that race will be a highlight," Dwyer said. "We made it over 2520 metres, which will be what the final race at showgrounds will be, and a standing start.
"Karloo Mick made the greatest ever field and he will be there on Sunday to lead out the field for the last race at showgrounds."
