THE Redland City Chamber of Commerce, as I suspect would most residents, take umbrage at the Redland City Bulletin front page headline Wednesday, September 17, labelling Redlands as "Ice City Redlands rises as a meth hub".
I am not sure what constitutes an "Ice City", but I do doubt it would pertain to the communities of Redland City. It is difficult to understand the logic of such a headline in a newspaper delivered free to each house.
Surely we do not need this style of sensationalism which does nothing but detract from our wonderful city.
The hard working and proud residents of Redlands would rather see and read of the positive stories happening in our community.
Buried in the back of the "Ice City" publication were great articles on a new Anzac memorial, empowering the disabled and Redlands naming its inspiring leaders all of which deserved to be on the front page.
Garry Hargrave, President, Redland City Chamber of Commerce
* Editor responds: The front page "Ice City" was designed to assist police in putting heat on the unsavoury drug industry in the Redlands and flush out those involved in these illegal activities. Such exposure brings to the attention of everyone that, according to police, there is a growing drug problem in our city and we all need to be vigilant. The Bulletin cannot ignore this problem and seeks to work with police in their quest to clean up the Redlands for it to continue as a "wonderful city".
