Reigning Peter Burge Medallist Simon Milenko will have the chance to showcase his credentials for higher honours on Thursday when he turns out for the Queensland Bulls against Ireland at Peter Burge Oval.
The Redlands allrounder will play at his home club at Wellington Point as Ireland regroup for the second tour game of their pre-ICC Cricket World Cup familiarisation tour of Australia and New Zealand.
Milenko, originally from Lismore and a former Gold Coast player, will join a host of players hoping to force their way into the Queensland line-up for the Matador BBQs Cup one-day series that gets underway this weekend in Brisbane.
Left-arm pace bowler Scott Walter has also earned a start following a strong start to the my FootDr Premier Grade competition.
Walter, who has played 11 first class and seven List A matches for the Bulls, has taken 19 wickets at an average of 4.3 so far this season for University of Queensland.
Bulls coach Stuart Law said the match was another vital part of the team’s preparations ahead of the Matador one-day tournament.
“We’re looking at giving everyone a go, and there have been blokes from outside the squad like Simon and Scotty Walter who have put performances on the board and we’re keen to give them an opportunity,’’ he said.
Admission is free for the one-day match.
