REDLAND City Council is remaining tight-lipped about a decision this morning regarding a 332-lot sub-division on the corner of Woodlands Drive and Taylor Road.
The decision refers to council’s 2009 refusal of an application for a housing estate and a community centre on the Woodlands Drive land, zoned rural non-urban.
An officer report at the time said the development was “contrary to orderly, efficient and sustainable planning” and was “premature” and not supported by suitable infrastructure.
Since the 2009 refusal, Thornlands land owners Joe George and Lorette Wigan have challenged council in the Planning and Environment court.
Cr Julie Talty today asked council to confirm last week's decision - made when two councillors were absent - about the Woodlands Drive development application.
This morning’s meeting came less than two months after councillors voted to continue to refuse the application.
Mayor Karen Williams left the chambers after declaring a conflict of interest as both applicants attended her 2012 election fund raising events.
Deputy mayor Alan Beard used his casting vote and the council voted 5/5 to confirm last week’s decision to return to court to settle the appeal.
A council spokesman said today’s decision did not affect appeals before the Planning and Environment Court.
“The appeals remain in place and as this is an ongoing legal matter all details remain confidential.”
