Redland SES Unit has been voted the best in the region for the sixth year in a row.
The local unit received the accolade for going “above and beyond” expectations during the North Stradbroke Island bushfires in December and January.
Acting Assistant Commissioner for SES Operations, Peter Jeffrey said Redland SES volunteers had shown a strong commitment to the local community throughout the year.
“The unit was operational 24/7 for more than 14 days during the North Stradbroke Island fires and during the same time was called upon for storm damage response,” he said.
“During deployment to North Stradbroke Island, SES members conducted duties such as traffic control operations, chainsaw operations, helicopter landing security and assisted in establishing an evacuation centre until Redland City Council and Red Cross arrived on the island.”
As well as receiving the Regional Operational Response of the Year and Regional Unit of the Year awards at a ceremony to kick off SES Week at Kedron on Saturday, local volunteers also won individual awards.
