WAITING times for cases to come before the Queensland Civil Action Tribunal had been cut in half following the introduction of Justices of the Peace into the system, according to Attorney-General Jarrod Bleijie.
Mr Bleijie was in Redlands as a guest of Cleveland MP Mark Robinson on Saturday to launch Queensland Justices Association’s 21st State Conference.
He told the crowd of about 170 at the Redlands Sporting Club there had been fewer appeals since the inclusion of JPs, who added an element of pragmatism and commonsense to the system.
Mr Bleijie thanked the state’s 90,000 JPs and Commissioners for Declarations in front of the state’s newly appointed Chief Justice Tim Carmody.
Mr Carmody gave the crowd a brief history of the justice system before Capalaba MP Steve Davies spoke of the community benefits of JPs.
