I refer to Redland City Council's announcement that bayside residents are a step closer to vibrant waterfront developments and new jobs after the state government and council announced the Walker Group as the preferred partner to develop Toondah Harbour and Weinam Creek.
We are pleased to see the PDA Development at Weinam Creek is progressing, but we hope these pertinent issues here are addressed as residents and landowners of the Southern Moreton Bay Islands have long become accustomed to being disillusioned by governments, councils and developers.
The nature and scope of the development at Weinam Creek will have a significant ongoing effect on the lives of the 7500 current residents and on those of the 22,000 who in future will inhabit the islands.
Can they assure us in clear terms that parking facilities for 3000 cars will be provided to meet the estimated 2030 requirements for SMBI use?
Will there be an affordable parking expansion to meet the needs of the estimated 22,000 future residents?
Will the ferry terminal not be relegated again back to the rear of Weinam Creek, thus making the journey times more than 15 per cent longer and more costly?
Will some form of marina or mooring facility be maintained for use of both islanders and mainlanders?
Can they also ensure that when the key stakeholders group is formed, it includes adequate representation from the Southern Moreton Bay Islands?
