Redland City Council will name a Victoria Point park in honour of long-serving doctor Noel Barker, who died suddenly in August, aged 64.
The Church Street park, which strangely has no name, is next to Dr Barker's parents' house where he grew up and is across the road from Dr Barker's own home at Victoria Point.
Dr Barker came from a large family and his parents, the late Britha and Noel Barker, had 11 children.
Two of Dr Barker's siblings plan to renovate the old Barker family home and fully support naming the park in honour of their brother.
Division 4 councillor Lance Hewlett asked for a report on the naming of the park to be tabled at today's general meeting.
"I have lived in Victoria Point for 23 years, not far from Dr Barker's practice, and many, many local residents have spoken highly and fondly of him for all of those years," Cr Hewlett said.
"I hope to have an official naming ceremony once this is approved."
Dr Barker, who set up rooms at Pelican's Nest on Colburn Avenue in the 1980s, was a fixture at the practice, which grew to include Dr Kim Zambelli, Dr Jeanine McMullan and Dr Natalie Edgar.
With wife Lyndal, he had two daughters, Carolyn and Bridget, and was grandfather to Madeleine and Lillian.
His daughter, Bridget, also a general practitioner, will step into her father's shoes and take over the running of the practice this month.
