MORE than 140 people, including 30 kids, braved the 35C heat to throw in a line and rid Leslie Harrison Dam of tilapia, a pest fish species.
There was a total of 141 registrations recorded for Sunday’s event, which was a one-off as fishing is not permitted at Leslie Harrison Dam.
About 40 people from aged care homes, schools and people with disabilities attended a special pest fishing day on Friday before Sunday's event.
The pest fish caught filled three bins, weighing roughly 300kg, or around 150 tilapia, the most common pest fish in the dam.
All tilapia caught were disposed of as they are a noxious species under the Fisheries Regulation 2008 and are known to eat native fish.
Seqwater partnered with Capalaba MP Steve Davies to host the event which included a barbecue by Lions Club Capalaba.
