CARS were towed from Bryan Byrt's Capalaba sales yard on Redland Bay Road on Friday after the auto group went into receivership this month.
Passersby watched as tow trucks took stock from the Capalaba dealer, one of three Volkswagen-linked sites affected when Volkswagen cancelled a franchise with Brisbane-based Bryan Byrt this month.
Two sites in Mount Gravatt were also affected but other Bryan Byrt yards selling Ford cars are still open.
Bryan Byrt Volkswagen, a leading Queensland auto dealership, was put in administration on November 5 when Andrew Fielding and Helen Newman of BDO were appointed administrators.
Companies related to Bryan Byrt Volkswagen were also placed in administration, including Bryan Byrt Holdings, Bryan Byrt Services, Bryan Byrt Automotive and BJC Investments.
A creditors meeting on November 18 appointed a committee of creditors for the companies.
Receivers from O’Brien Palmer Insolvency & Business Recovery Accountants were also appointed to one Volkswagen-linked part of the Bryan Byrt group.
Bryan Byrt Volkswagen operated a sales, service and parts centre in Capalaba, a sales centre in Mount Gravatt and a service centre in Mansfield.
The Capalaba dealership sold Volkswagens and Skodas.
The company was established in 1972 and, at its peak, had six locations across the southside of Brisbane.
Bryan Byrt’s receivers said they would contact customers who had paid deposits after the receivership, for refund arrangements.
“Bryan Byrt Automotive Group has long been recognised as one of Australia's most successful dealerships, achieving levels of customer satisfaction that have become benchmarks for the motor industry nationally,” its website states.
