Opposition Leader Annastacia Palaszczuk said the strongest and smartest choice for dealing with the government's taxpayer funded advertising campaigns was referring the matter to the state's Auditor-General.
Following Premier Campbell Newman's complaints about the previous governments' use of publicly funded advertising in the lead up to the 2012 election, the LNP government vowed to slash its budget and stick to an advertising code of conduct.
Included in the code is a provision that "there should be no advertising within six months of the scheduled date for an election unless there is an urgent emerging issue".
The government is yet to schedule a date for the 2015 poll, but in the meantime it has been running a concerted campaign to "inform" the public about the privatisation plan it intends to implement in the event it wins the upcoming election.
Health, an area which the government considers one of its most successful turnarounds, has also been the subject of a strong advertising campaign.
Speaking ahead of Cabinet on Monday morning, Education Minister John-Paul Langbroek said he didn't see an issue.
"The health minister has made it very clear that he believes that the current advertising regime is appropriate given the regulations that are there," he said.
"That will be assessed and there will be a decision made on that."
But Ms Palaszczuk said the advertising "must stop".
"I am making a complaint today to the Auditor-General, because I believe there is a fundamental breach of the code of conduct," she said.
"Mums and dads should not be having to pay for this advertising, when it is clearly LNP advertising in the lead up to the election campaign. I don't know how much is going to be spent, but it is a tsunami of ads.
"This is blatant, this is over the top and it is consistent - every day and night.
"When people turn on their radio, when they turn on their television set, you - the mums and dads at home - are paying for this advertising."
The Wait List Guarantee advertisments, launched by Health Minister Lawrence Springborg on Sunday, are paid from the Health Department's $9 million plus advertising budget for 2014-15.
Last financial year Queensland Health spent $9.08 million on advertising.
In the last budget $5 million was spent on Strong Choices. This year's budget put aside another $6 million for the campaign.
The government has also engaged private consultants to help it sell the plan, but is yet to reveal the final cost.
A spokesman for the government said "all advertising complied with the guidelines" and it had spent "at least 20 per cent less than the previous administration".
But Ms Palaszczuk said she saw no option other than to complain to the Auditor-General.
"They are using tax payers' money to mount a massive spend in the lead up to the election, which is now less than four months away," she said.
"The code says no advertising by the government six months out unless it is an emergent issue.
"This is blatant political advertising. The waste must stop."
