Hot steamy days have brought out the mangrove jack; there have been quite a few caught over the past week.
Top spots include the Nerang River and both arms of the Coomera River in the Broadwater.
At Jumpinpin the better catches have come from gnarly undercut island shorelines that are lined with mangrove roots.
There are a few trevally around; divers tell me there are a lot over the pipeline in the Seaway.
Mud crabs have also been scarce, although there have been sand crabs in the southern bay.
There have been good numbers of summer whiting caught in Tingalpa Creek, the mouth of Aquatic Paradise, King Island and spread throughout Jumpinpin and the Broadwater.
There have been a few quality chopper tailor around bar entrances, surf beaches and in Moreton Bay this week.
The better catches were within sight of the Pin Bar and Seaway on a run-in tide, but schools have also been surfacing around the Rous Channel and moving through the southern bay.
Surf anglers have also caught their share at sunrise, sunset and through the night.
On Moreton Bay surface action is starting to hot up, with lots of school mackerel reports from the Shark Spit area and tuna through the middle of the bay up to Bribie Island.
There have been snapper caught from around either Mud, Green or Peel islands, but the bite in the shallows has been before daylight.
When the sun gets up the better results have come from one of the artificial reefs in deeper water.
On the offshore scene, pelagic action is starting to pick up, with a few reports of mackerel and wahoo last week.
Those fishing the bottom are catching trag and snapper and there have been dolphinfish around structures.
Diver whiting were a little hard to find on the mainland side of the bay; the western side of the bay around the Rous Channel and Sand Hills is fishing better.
We are seeing exceptional numbers of bass caught in all freshwater impoundments.
