Redland City's community organisations and volunteers are invited to International Volunteer Day Expo, an event marking the biggest celebration of volunteerism worldwide.
The expo is a free event, organised by Volunteering Redlands, and will be held from 10am to 1.30pm at Redlands Performing Arts Centre on Friday, December 5.
Volunteering Redlands chairperson Patsy Wiltshire said the organisation was pleased to bring the International Volunteers Day celebrations to the Redlands.
"Volunteers are the heart of our community and we extend a warm invitation to all volunteers to visit the expo, enjoy a free lunch, network with fellow volunteers and explore the best of volunteering opportunities in Redlands," she said.
The expo marks International Volunteer Day, designated by the United Nations for recognising volunteer involvement in the community.
It is also a significant day for not-for-profit organisations to honour the outstanding work and contribution of their volunteers.
In addition to plenty of giveaways from exhibitors, expo visitors also have a chance to win the lucky door prize of a weekend away to North Stradbroke Island.
"The expo presents a great opportunity for charitable orgnisations to attract and recruit volunteer staff by booking a table at the expo as an exhibitor," Ms Wilshire said.
"Only a few spots are now left so we encourage all not-for-profits to make the most of this opportunity by contacting us as soon as possible."
At the expo, Redland mayor Karen Williams will deliver a note of thanks to all volunteers, and Volunteering Queensland president Ross Wiseman will provide insight into the benefits of volunteering in the local community.
The Greg Cook Volunteer Recognition Award winner will also be announced at the expo.
"It is going to be a fantastic celebration of volunteerism," Ms Wilshire said.
"We are looking forward to welcoming the entire volunteering community of Redlands to join us in making it a success."
The expo is sponsored by Victoria Point Community Bank – Bendigo Bank, Hog's Breath Café and Redland City Council.
