The Cleveland man at the centre of a 14-hour standoff in a five-storey unit block appeared in Cleveland Magistrates Court today after surrendering to police early this morning.
The 42-year-old was charged with making a bomb threat and possessing drug utensils.
Passage Street residents were evacuated from the units at 1.50pm on Tuesday while police special taskforce members tried to coax the man out of his third-floor unit.
They were finally able to return home at 5am when police arrested the man and took him into custody.
The 14-hour ordeal started when police cordoned off the street and evacuated residents under the Public Safety Preservation Act.
They surrounded the building and started negotiating with the man who had barricaded himself inside his third-floor unit, near the Redland RSL.
A police Special Emergency Response Team in riot gear, and carrying implements to break down doors, surrounded the unit just after 6pm.
Capalaba Senior Sergeant Mike Moloney said residents of the building were evacuated as a safety precaution.
Wayne Kelly, who lives in the units, said he was first alerted when police arrived and asked him to leave while they negotiated with the man.
Redlands RSL picked up five evacuated residents and offered to take them to Redland Hospital so they could receive their medication.
Forensic police, along with four negotiators, 25 police officers and 10 detectives, were on the scene along with nine special tactical response officers.
Horizon Housing, which owns the building, was notified but had not contacted residents before 7pm.
