Redland City water daily water consumption continues to be the consistently the highest in South East Queensland.
Between November 2013 last year and October this year, the average daily water usage per Redland resident was 206 litres compared with 167 litres for the average of water users in the South East Queensland.
Users in the combined area of Brisbane, Ipswich, Lockyer Valley, Logan, Moreton Bay, Somerset.( Central SEQ) used 51 litres less per person, per day on average than Redland City.
The figures released by Seqwater confirm water users in Redland City use more per person than users in the other Seqwater areas SEQ central ( Brisbane/Logan/Ipswich ), Gold Coast, Scenic Rim, and Sunshine Coast.
In 2012, the average water daily use per person In Redland City was 192 litres per day compared with 169 litres per person for the average across all local government areas covered by Seqwater.
In 2013, Redland water users consumed water at the rate of 194 litres per day while the average for Seqwater was 166 litres per person per day.
In January, 2012, Redland's average daily consumption per person was 183 litres which leapt to 240 litres per day in January 2013 and dipped to 234 litres in January 2014.
Water usage peaked in late December 2013 and early January 2014 when Redland City water users on same days were using between 250 and 275 litres per day. At the same time, the average for Seqwater was 182 litres per day and 165 for Brisbane/Logan and Ipswich combined.
A spokesperson for Seqwater said while extensive comparative analysis of each council had not been conducted by Seqwater, the relative size of blocks of land and garden sizes in the Redlands were likely contributing factors to the highest water usage.
Another contributing factor could be that Redland City was not subject to the drought restrictions that were applied by the Queensland Water Commission when a residential usage target of 140 litres per person per day was applied in 2008.
The spokesperson said where these restrictions applied; changes were noted in water usage at the time.
