CHRISTMAS and end-of- year parties are times for getting together with colleagues, family and friends for a few drinks.
But Police Minister Jack Dempsey and motor racing champion Craig Lowndes want the roads to be safe and launched a campaign, called “Light Your Drive” to get people to turn their headlights on over Christmas.
Mr Dempsey said more police would be patrolling roads clamping down on those who speed, drink drive, don’t wear seatbelts and ignore road rules.
So far this year, 220 people have died on Queensland roads, down from the same time last year when 262 people were killed in road accidents.
Texting while driving is also an offence which attracts a minimum penalty of $300 and three demerit points.
It is one of the bug bears for Redland resident David Crowhurst-Barber, who decided to put pen to paper to ensure everyone stays safe over the Christmas break.
Mr Crowhurst-Barber, who has a keen wit, wants the words to be sung to the tune of Winter Wonderland so you get home alive.
