RESIDENTS in Sycamore Parade, Victoria Point have lashed out against an application for extended trading hours at Victoria Point Tavern.
Located within the Victoria Point Town Centre precinct and owned by ALH Group, the tavern's main premises currently trades from 10am to 1am daily and its liquor barn trades from 9am to 9pm daily.
Licensee Vicpoint Pty Ltd has applied to the Office of Liquor and Gaming Regulation to extend the trading hours at the main premises by two hours daily, to 3am.
The application does not propose to alter trading hours at the liquor barn.
Maria Sealy, of Victoria Point, said she and her immediate neighbours were worried the extended trading hours would increase noise both from the tavern and from its patrons leaving the premises in the early hours of the morning.
"We don't know if there will be extra noise, but we want to stop this application before we have to find out the hard way," she said.
"We're also concerned about people getting home at 3am.
"This isn't a city night club precinct - it's a small shopping centre and residential area.
"Our houses back onto an easement that is already gated to keep people out at night, but the gate often doesn't get locked by the contractors who do it and we hear pretty much everything that goes on out there.
"We've already been abused by drunk people at the back of our homes and we don't want that at 3am every day."
Redland City Bulletin invited a spokesperson from ALH Group to speak with the newspaper about the application, but the company declined to comment.
The closing date for submissions and/or objections to the application is Monday, January 5, 2015.
Submissions should be lodged with OLGR's Brisbane Liquor Office.
