I can't wait to read The Presidents Club: Inside the World's Most Exclusive Fraternity by Nancy Gibbs and Michael Duffy. It's about former US presidents and their friendships and rivalries and this rare life experience that they have in common.
It was recommended to me by the shadow treasurer, Chris Bowen. We share a keen interest in American politics and occasionally exchange book recommendations. It's interesting that even politicians with little in common in office – such as Bill Clinton and George W. Bush – can sometimes become quite close afterwards. I love a bit of presidential gossip so I think this will be a cracking holiday read.
I'm also keen on The Devil's Candy: The Anatomy of a Hollywood Fiasco by Julie Salamon about the making of the film of Tom Wolfe's The Bonfire of the Vanities. Annabel Crabb recommended this one to me as she knows I love a good Hollywood insider tale, particularly one in which the wheels come off.
