Last-minute Christmas shoppers are expected to flock to Westfield's Garden City and Chermside shopping centres during a marathon 33-hour trading extravaganza.
National Retail Association CEO Trevor Evans said the two centres would open around the clock after they won an application in the Industrial Relations Commission this month.
Mr Evans said the retail sector was experiencing good momentum in the lead up to Christmas and he expected the extra hours to help.
“Christmas is a critical time of year for retailers, but it’s also a busy time of year for households, so opening additional hours just prior to Christmas allows more people to get their Christmas plans organised, and has a positive effect on the entire state," he said.
“Many have told us they’re just really looking forward to having a bit of fun tonight, and making the most of having customers through the doors when the centres would usually be deserted,” he said.
Westfield’s Chermside store will kick off its marathon trading hours event at 8am on Tuesday and Garden City at 9am and won’t close until 5.30pm on Christmas Eve.
