Redland City Council has erected signs warning swimmers of marine stingers in the water at Wellington Point after a six-year-old boy and his mother were stung by jellyfish on New Year's Eve.
Mayor Karen Williams ordered the signs be erected while the council investigated the incident after the child was taken to hospital.
Cr Williams also instructed officers to notify Surf Life Saving Queensland.
Eight signs were put up at the Point on January 2 and pamphlets about various treatments distributed.
If stung, Surf Life Saving Queensland advises to call 000 immediately, provide CPR if required and pour vinegar all over the stung area.
Council said it had no reports of the deadly box jellyfish, known as Chironex fleckeri, in the city's waters, but warned swimmers serious allergic reactions can occur from marine stingers.
Redland City Bulletin has asked the world's leading marine stinger expert to examine the jellyfish which stung the child and his mother.
Details of the findings will be in Wednesday's Redland City Bulletin
