Redlands were looking to start the New Year in a winning mood but unfortunately the heat proved too much for many of the players and their performances were below par.
First and second grade played a two-day game over the weekend and were out to cement their position in the top four. Unfortunately both suffered a loss at the hands of lower teams.
One team that has started well is third grade, who came away with a great win in their one-day game against Toombul.
Sitting on the bottom of the ladder, the Redlands boys piled on 309 runs off their 40 overs thanks to a thrilling innings from Jackson Casalaina, who hit 97 runs off 49 balls.
Bailey Lavender, 65 not out, also batted well. Toombul were not able to reach the total required, being dismissed for 214. Redlands also picked up a bonus point from this game.
The only other winning team at the weekend was sixth grade no. 2, who narrowly defeated the Redlands no. 1 side in a 40- over game. Michael Redhead scored most of the runs 72 off 46 balls for the no. 1 team and team 2 secured victory by two wickets with 10 deliveries remaining.
The Hoppy's Car Wash Player of the Week award goes to Jackson Casalaina for his great innings of 97 in the third grade one-day game played on Saturday.
The Redlands Tigers Cricket Club is inviting junior cricketers to join one of the best junior programs on offer this summer.
The Redlands Tigers Junior Performance Program is an initiative by the club in order to best prepare junior cricketers for not only the summer season ahead but to develop and enhance the skills of all junior cricketers within the area.
The program, starting on January 14, is open to males and females aged 12-17 with at least two years' cricket experience at any level. It offers six sessions throughout the summer holidays and will be co-ordinated and directed by Redlands Tigers club coach and Southern Blaze T20 Challenge coach Nick Hurford, with first grade captain Greg Moller and former England Under 19 captain and current Redlands overseas player Adam Ball assisting with the program.
