MORE election promises were made today after Cleveland MP Mark Robinson announced a $300,000 windfall for a seventh artificial reef.
If re-elected, Mr Robinson said his proposal was for a reef to be built inshore and close to Wellington Point.
"There are still nautical and marine park reviews to be done before an exact location is finalised," he said.
"The final location has to work in with the Marine Park Act and nautical safety."
Mr Robinson said the promised money, which would only be delivered if he is re-elected, would help make Moreton Bay Marine Park an even better place to fish.
“Moreton Bay is renowned as one of the top fishing spots, and additional reef coverage will help to bring in more tourists, and create more jobs and recreational opportunities for locals,” he said.
National Parks Minister Steve Dickson, who visited Cleveland on Thursday, said the government had supported recreational anglers with its $50million Marine Infrastructure Fund.
Mr Dickson said the Marine Infrastructure Fund includes $2 million for artificial reefs, which boost fish supply by providing marine life with protection from predators, shelter from ocean currents, breeding opportunities and a rich supply of food.
The government has established six artificial reefs in Moreton Bay Marine Park, including a barge, which was scuttled off Wynnum last year.
While in Cleveland Mr Dickson met with RSL Fishing Club president Peter Germain.
