Disendorsed LNP MP Peter Dowling has lashed out at the LNP blaming it for more than a 19% swing to the ALP in his seat of Redlands.
Mr Dowling said early vote counting from the southern bay islands initially put the ALP candidate, barrister Deb Kellie, ahead of recently endorsed LNP candidate Matt McEachan.
Mr Dowling said there was a range of factors contributing to an "horrific" 19% swing away from the LNP in Redlands.
"The party left pre-selection so late the candidate did not have enough time to get acquainted with the electorate," he said.
"Then the party moved into panic mode and started offering all the baubles and promises - 'vote for me or else' which voters just saw as shallow politicking.
"There was also a bigger array of candidates - six, which split the conservative vote and that didn't help either.
"There was a small protest vote about what the LNP did to me but there was always going to be a correction."
With 51% of the vote counted, Mr McEachan was looking likely to take the seat with a narrow margin over Ms Kellie.
