Ormiston residents have failed in their bid to save 27 koala trees bordering a housing development.
About 20 men with chainsaws started work on the trees, at Wellington Street, Ormiston before 8am on Monday.
By 9am more than 20 trees were felled and the men used a bobcat to haul away the trunks.
A koala spotter was onsite during the felling.
Resident and protester Judy Rose chained herself to a fence near one of the trees in a an effort to stop it being lopped.
However, the tree loppers used bolt cutters to remove the chain before cutting down the tree.
A group of more than 20 residents has been campaigning for more than three months to stop the trees being removed.
They staged a protest outside Redland City Council chambers in December and even wrote to the developer, Fiteni Homes, with a proposal to buy a parcel of land to protect the trees.
