The desperately dangerous situation that Victoria Point bus and esplanade users have been put in while this work at the jetty is being undertaken, is atrocious.
The public has been put at severe risk of injury due to the placement of fencing, bus stop and huts.
There is only one spot to cross the road coming from the jetty and it is on a blind corner. There are no warning signs to tell drivers that they are coming to a bus stop, pedestrians, children and the elderly.
One elderly person has been injured already because of the hassle and stress of negotiating traffic. People have to rush because the stop is now further away and no adjustment to the timetables has been made to allow for this.
There is no footpath, therefore it is more difficult getting on and off the bus as it is higher off the ground than normal.
Island residents often have heavy shopping trolleys, mobility walkers and prams.
The most horrific part of all is the kids. They don't realise how dangerous it is getting to and from the buses now with the blind corner; they just run around playing as usual.
This morning was chaotic, two buses arrived together, as they do every hour. The back bus had to leave first, with no room to manouver while another two cars behind were trying to overtake. A car was parked with a trailer hanging out into the roadway.
The front bus tried to pull over and did not see a pedestrian walking down the side of the bus to get on. It is chaos.
As a result of the older person being injured, we contacted our new local member Matt McEachan and we had a meeting organised with him.
Islanders have been trying to get amendments to the timetable since January 2014 without success, but the latest position is intolerable. It is unsafe and places every user and pedestrian at risk.
It's idiotic ... dangerous, totally unsafe and poor placement of a bus stop. It really is not good enough.
