TAFE Queensland's board showed its support for the continued operation of the Alexandra Hills campus during a meet-and-greet with local employers last week.
The organisation invited about 50 representatives of business, schools and government to the Windemere Road campus to meet the TAFE Queensland board, as well as chief executive Jodi Schmidt and Brisbane region director Aaron Devine.
Both sides of politics were represented, with Labor's Capalaba MP Don Brown and the LNP's Cleveland MP Mark Robinson in attendance.
Staff and students feared the Alexandra Hills campus could be closed or its courses scaled back under the funding changes of the previous government.
But Mr Devine said the organisation was committed to performing its "critical role" in the district.
"Redlands is an important hub for TAFE at School," he said.
"TAFE is listening and is committed to this region."
But board chairman Warren Tapp said that commitment wouldn't come through the status quo, but better engagement with employers and training tailored to growth industries like aged care.
"We felt we needed to get better at engaging with employers," he said.
"We want to create jobs out of [this campus]."
The night was also used as an opportunity to spruik TAFE's credentials against private tertiary providers, with a testimonial from Michelle Benstead, whose daughter Caitlin was able to apply for a nursing degree at Australian Catholic University after taking the institute's alternative OP pathway.
She said health issues forced her daughter to defer her year 12 studies, but she was able to achieve her Senior Certificate through TAFE and pursue her dream of becoming a nurse or paramedic.
The food, catering and music were provided by current and former TAFE students.
The newly elected state government pledged $34 million to "rescue" TAFE Queensland during the recent election campaign.
The policy included the creation of up to 100 new teaching and support positions, increased investment in student support services and subsidising skills courses for disadvantaged learners.
