Macleay Island artist David Wells will once again shine in the world spotlight when the television program Colour in Your Life airs an episode featuring him.
Colour in Your Life shows on a range of channels, including 4Me, Foxtel Aurora 183, SKY Channel (New Zealand) and a range of community channels in the USA; and has a dedicated YouTube channel.
The show's film crew was on Macleay Island last Friday, filming David at work on a portrait in pastels.
The production follows on the heels of him having been chosen by art supply company Canson Australia to feature on a limited edition box of pastels made by Schmincke in Germany, with his name and painting on the cover.
David said he never expected the level of success that has followed him over the past 12 months.
"It's getting to the point where it's becoming a career," he said.
"I'm starting to plan ahead and just do one thing after another.
"I still see myself as a tradesperson, however, as my vision was to just produce enough paintings to sustain me from one sale to the next.
"Things are growing faster than that now, though.
"I'm pleased that it's come, and while I have no ambition to be famous, the success does help people to know who you are, which makes selling paintings easier."
David's work first came to international attention last year when his portrait of Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge was accepted as a gift by Prince William and the duchess on their visit to Australia in April.
Since then, he has featured in exhibitions in Hong Kong and Guangzhou, was commissioned to paint a portrait of American actress Carrie Fisher, was a finalist in the prestigious Black Swan Prize for portraiture in Perth, and is about to embark on a national tour with Canson.
Colour in Your Life CEO and director Graeme Stevenson, who is a master artist himself, said he was pleased to be taking David's work to audiences across the world.
"He's a very talented artist," Graeme said.
"He's starting to do really well in his career and this is the type of show that people really want to watch.
"We have 20,000 views every day on YouTube alone."
Graeme said the episode featuring David would most likely air in about two to three months' time.
