Kangaroos approach Glenn Archer to join board

The Roos have approached Archer to fill the vacancy left by Mark Brayshaw, who has become the chief executive of the AFL Coaches Association.

Archer has until March 18 to make a call before the Roos hold their annual general meeting.

"I am speaking to them about it. I just haven't made a decision yet," Archer said.

"Obviously, time management is the key. I am still a way off at the moment – I am not sure I am going to do it yet."

Should Archer join, he will be a "football" director, acting as a specialist conduit between the football department and board.

However, as a director of Stride Sports management, although not an accredited AFL player agent, Archer is also debating whether there would be any conflict of interest.

"That is something that I have to weigh up. I am not actually an accredited agent, I don't actually manage as such," he said.

"Personally, I don't think it's a conflict whatsoever as I don't get involved in contracts and all that sort of stuff. It's just whether people believe you or not.

"If I was to do it, and something was to come to the board, which it rarely does contract wise, the only time the board would be talking about a contract is if you are chasing a Gary Ablett or someone ... other than that, it's the footy department, list manager's job. If it (major contract) did, it's something that I would just have to excuse myself from."

It's understood Simon Crean, a former Labor leader and a former No.1 Kangaroos' ticket-holder, and former Australian cricket captain Ricky Ponting had also been on a short list of candidates to replace Brayshaw.

Ponting is also a Stride director.

Archer, crowned the Shinboner of the Century in 2005, played 311 matches for the Roos between 1992 and 2007, including the 1996 and 1999 premierships.
